As we close Term 3 at Vsuccess Education, there is much to reflect on and be proud of for our English, Maths and Abacus students. Succeeding from our writing intensive Winter holiday program, ‘The Writers’ Room,’ and completion of our first round of exams in semester one, Term 3 offered new challenges that our students faced head on, including a comparative film adaptations study for Yrs 4-6 and preparing for writing full analytical essays in our Yrs 7-9 classes. We have opened two new classes commencing this term and are excited to keep expanding.

In June, led by our English Manager, Hannah, we conducted several days of writing focused study for both primary and early senior students exploring different approaches, techniques and structures to excel at writing persuasively, narratively, informatively and even analytically! This included a combined study of the 2007 film ‘Bridge to Terabithia,’ which prompted students to consider the depth of their imaginations and write on what their own magical kingdom would look like. We introduced literary devices to embed in our descriptive writing like alliteration and symbolism, building personal ‘toolboxes’ of techniques to strengthen our writing, moreover, giving our analysis evidence through identifying language choices. Our students flexed their handwritten skills and were supported with feedback and expert comments throughout. Join us for our next holiday program in September to prepare for scholarship writing!

Meet the Tutors: Michelle

Hello! My name is Michelle, and I am the Year 2 English tutor at Vsuccess Education. I am passionate about creating an engaging learning environment where students can strengthen their English skills and develop greater confidence in their abilities. By recognising each student’s individual learning style, I can tailor my feedback to support their progress across vocabulary, spelling, reading and writing. Outside of work, you may find me getting lost in a good mystery novel or travelling to new places.

September Holiday Program Seeking Enrolment: Scholarship Writing Preparation

For our next round of holidays, between Monday 28th September - Friday 2nd October from 10am-3pm we are open and seeking enrolment for students interested in preparing for scholarship admissions and developing their writing skills. Informed by the rubrics and exam structures of Victorian scholarship programs such as ACER, EduTest and AAS, this program will provide a guide on preparing students for selective entry high schools, tertiary education and more. Under strict time conditions mimicking the constraints of sitting these admission exams, students will develop their confidence and agility, thinking critically and writing concisely. Speak to Jackson regarding any concerns, interest or questions at the front desk.

Film Adaptations Study Yr 4-6: ‘Holes’, ‘Wonder’ and ‘Charlotte’s Web’

In Week 5 this term, our Yrs 4, 5 and 6 English classes enjoyed viewing the film adaptions of their analytical study novels. They discussed cinematic techniques and analysed how the perspectives, settings and themes of the books were visually translated or changed by the directors. Students reflected on lessons of coming of age and kindness interpreted by the movies.

The orca's way of navigation, communication and patterns fascinate me. Orcas are apex predators that use echo-location. Clicking takes care of communication. The orca's pattern is unique and recognisable. You can't even see its eyes!

This friendly animal to humans lives in the vast ocean, in the coasts of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, Australia and even Antartica!

A long time ago, there were two mean suns, but there was no moon, which means the nights were never cool. Many people could not sleep at night which made people angry.

Then, a brave girl named Kopecho decided to do something. She talked to other people to help her. She talked quietly so the suns could not hear her. No one wanted to help her. So she made her plans alone.

First, she dug a very deep pit. So deep the suns couldn't see the bottom of the pit. The town people dug pits so the suns wouldn't realise anything weird. Then she cooked a big feast and invited the suns down.

Kopecho entertained the suns then she asked them to dance with her. While they were dancing, she pushed one of the suns into the pit. When the sun climbed back up. But there light was damper. And that sun became the moon.

Ice climbing is an extreme sport. Usually, ice climbing is climbing a tall frozen waterfall. Imagine scaling a frozen waterfall when you know it might collapse. This text will let you climb deeper into your knowledge about ice climbing. This sport is risky, and you should not try it unless you are a professional.

To survive this sport, you will have to have snow gear even if you are a professional. You can not ascend the waterfall without snow gear, otherwise your hand could turn into a block of ice. Because the icy water is incredible, the ice is slick and solid. Climbing with shoes because bare skin cannot grip the slippery ice, they will need special equipment, so that it could bite the frozen water. For example, for footwear, they will nail nails into their shoes. In their hands, they can be holding ice axes that plunge into the wall to pull themselves up. Without this special equipment, ice climbing would be impossible.

Ice climbing is divided into many different forms based on the environment and the type of ice that is being climbing. The texture, hardness and the safety route change depending on whether the ice was formed by a running waterfall or frozen mountain snow. For example, Ice Water is running water waterfalls. Another example is Alpine Ice, which is formed by dense snow on oversized mountains. Understanding these different and unique surfaces help climber's choose which one they want to climb.

Danger awaits you because of the unpredictable environment. Unlike some solid surfaces, ice can react to weather changes and that effect will cause the ice to melt, crack and shatter without any warning. Major accidents have happened that include avalanches, freezing temperatures and falling ice blocks that have caused climbers to fall. To protect climbers from these hazards, climber's always wear safety helmets and always work in pairs of two with a rope system where one partner anchors the other from below. By combining essential safety gear, climbers can avoid these dangerous hazards.

In conclusion, ice climbing is a thrilling activity, but also a risky sport. Success on the frozen wall uses unique techniques and creativity. Ultimately, people are willing to risk their lives to do this extreme sport. It gives an unforgettable memory and a personal achievement.

Good evening, my name is Floria and I am here to address an important issue. First of all, I want to thank you for letting me present.

Firstly, in our neighborhood, there are lots of teenagers with potential they don't even know they have. This is because of their screentime. Kids screen times have been growing each year, due to that less kids want to socialize and go outside. But if we build more facilities, for example, ice skating, then a lot of kids would likely go outside more and socialize.

Secondly, envision our neighborhood where more people bought our land. In order for people to pick to live in our neighborhood, we need good hospitality. Research says that 80% people would choose a neighborhood that is nicely presented and has good facilities. Therefore we can make that happen by adding basketball courts and playgrounds. By doing this, it shows people that we are a good community and care about peoples' both mental and physical health.

Bored at home with nothing to do? Well, I have a perfect idea. We must build more facilities around our neighborhood to help you both stay fit and entertained. By doing this it could help both your social life and your health.

In conclusion we must add more facilities around our neighborhood to help everyone in need. Once again, thank you for listening.

Good evening, councilors. Thank you for letting me present on an important issue. There are not enough facilities for teenagers locally. I believe that we should build more facilities for health, a nicer neighborhood and entertainment.

Firstly, health is extremely important. If we build more facilities for sport, teenagers can stay fit. Studies show that suburbs that have good facilities are generally happier. Moreover, facilities get teenagers off their phones and help them make new friends. Teenagers deserve to be happy, healthy and fit.

Nowadays, teenagers are glued to their phones because there's nothing else to do. What if we gave them something to do? Entertainment is important. It keeps teenagers happy and off their phones. If we build facilities, teenagers will find new hobbies.

To make Mount Waverley thrive, we should build facilities to attract families. If there are good facilities, families would want to come here for a happy lifestyle.
