As we close Term 3 at Vsuccess Education, there is much to reflect on and be proud of for our English, Maths and Abacus students. Succeeding from our writing intensive Winter holiday program, ‘The Writers’ Room,’ and completion of our first round of exams in semester one, Term 3 offered new challenges that our students faced head on, including a comparative film adaptations study for Yrs 4-6 and preparing for writing full analytical essays in our Yrs 7-9 classes. We have opened two new classes commencing this term and are excited to keep expanding.

In June, led by our English Manager, Hannah, we conducted several days of writing focused study for both primary and early senior students exploring different approaches, techniques and structures to excel at writing persuasively, narratively, informatively and even analytically! This included a combined study of the 2007 film ‘Bridge to Terabithia,’ which prompted students to consider the depth of their imaginations and write on what their own magical kingdom would look like. We introduced literary devices to embed in our descriptive writing like alliteration and symbolism, building personal ‘toolboxes’ of techniques to strengthen our writing, moreover, giving our analysis evidence through identifying language choices. Our students flexed their handwritten skills and were supported with feedback and expert comments throughout. Join us for our next holiday program in September to prepare for scholarship writing!

Meet the Tutors: Michelle

Hello! My name is Michelle, and I am the Year 2 English tutor at Vsuccess Education. I am passionate about creating an engaging learning environment where students can strengthen their English skills and develop greater confidence in their abilities. By recognising each student’s individual learning style, I can tailor my feedback to support their progress across vocabulary, spelling, reading and writing. Outside of work, you may find me getting lost in a good mystery novel or travelling to new places.

September Holiday Program Seeking Enrolment: Scholarship Writing Preparation

For our next round of holidays, between Monday 28th September - Friday 2nd October from 10am-3pm we are open and seeking enrolment for students interested in preparing for scholarship admissions and developing their writing skills. Informed by the rubrics and exam structures of Victorian scholarship programs such as ACER, EduTest and AAS, this program will provide a guide on preparing students for selective entry high schools, tertiary education and more. Under strict time conditions mimicking the constraints of sitting these admission exams, students will develop their confidence and agility, thinking critically and writing concisely. Speak to Jackson regarding any concerns, interest or questions at the front desk.

Film Adaptations Study Yr 4-6: ‘Holes’, ‘Wonder’ and ‘Charlotte’s Web’

In Week 5 this term, our Yrs 4, 5 and 6 English classes enjoyed viewing the film adaptions of their analytical study novels. They discussed cinematic techniques and analysed how the perspectives, settings and themes of the books were visually translated or changed by the directors. Students reflected on lessons of coming of age and kindness interpreted by the movies.

Stellar Sample Student Writing and Annotation Practice

Highlighted samples include ‘The World of Ice Climbing’ by Silvia (Yr 4) researched and written in her study of informative and explanatory report styles on the topic of extreme sports. Particularly, in this piece Silvia plays with clever puns writing, ‘this text will let you climb deeper into your knowledge about ice climbing’ in reference to the common metaphor of ‘digging or delving deeper’ in a breadth of information. Silvia also applies new vocabulary learnt in the previous class in the correct context.
