Year 1 English
4-term curriculum · Victorian school term dates
Year 1 builds the foundations of reading and writing. Students master sentence structure, capital letters and full stops, and progress through the parts of speech — nouns, verbs, adjectives, and prepositions. Writing practice focuses on short sentences and stories guided by pictures. Vocabulary grows through opposites, homophones, and themed word groups; comprehension uses short passages and charts.
